Philadelphia, PA –Fresh off its first stop in Ohio, the “Freedom Is At Stake” GOTV Bus Tour is moving through Philadelphia to engage Black voters, youth, and underrepresented communities, organizing around key issues like reproductive rights, voting rights, and economic justice. The tour, organized by SEIU, Vote to Live, NAACP, NextGen America, PushBlack, and Black Lives Matter PAC, focuses on mobilizing voters in this critical battleground state to increase turnout ahead of the 2024 election. The tour will make stops in Philadelphia from October 9-10, 2024. Pennsylvania is a crucial battleground state, and the tour aims to engage voters from historically marginalized communities to ensure their voices are heard in shaping the future of the House, Senate, and beyond.

As part of the stop’s second day activities, Mobilize Justice is partnering with Freedom is at Stake for their Vote Or Else Town Hall series, a multifaceted community gathering and civic engagement call to action. This initiative brings together artists, activists, community leaders, and multi-faith religious figures to address issues facing the communities this tour hopes to mobilize. The series will emphasize the importance of education, civic engagement, and credible messengers to Get Out The Vote in communities often disengaged from the process and foster honest dialogue about overcoming the lack of opportunities, resources, and misinformation, while encouraging civic participation and voting.

“As we draw close to this election there is no greater advocacy than coalition organizing,” said Marcus Bing, Founder and ED of Mobile Justice. We are coming together to engage, educate, excite, and encourage our communities especially in places mainstream advocacy and civic engagement groups traditionally don’t come.”

“Our early voting party is more than just an event—it’s a celebration of our right to be heard”, said LaTrista Webb,  Executive Director The Elevation Project.  We’re bringing the community together to register, turn in mail-in ballots, and enjoy good music, food, and fun. For those of us who have faced barriers, this is a powerful moment to show that our voices matter. By voting early, we’re taking control of our future and making sure we’re represented in every decision that shapes our lives.”

“Black voters and youth in Pennsylvania are key to determining the future of this nation,” said Andi Pringle, Founder and CEO of Registration Nation Action Fund. This tour is about empowering our communities, engaging voters, and making sure everyone understands what’s at stake in this election—our rights and our freedoms.”

“In Pennsylvania, we know that voter turnout will make the difference,” said Quentin James, Founder and President of The CollectivePAC. As a critical battleground state, the participation of Black voters, young people, and communities of color will decide the outcome of this election. This tour is about reminding voters that their voices have the power to shape the nation’s future.”

Working people will make the difference in this election. We want good union jobs in strong, thriving communities with clean water, safe schools, affordable housing, and accessible care. Workers are turning out across the country, voting for us—because when we vote for us, we win, said April Verrett, SEIU President.

NextGen America, a key partner in this effort, is focused on mobilizing young voters nationwide. Harry Johnson, VP of Strategic Partnerships for NextGen America, said, “For over a decade, NextGen has worked across the country to empower young people to engage in our elections and have their voices heard at the ballot box. With Election Day less than a month away, we are ensuring that young voters have everything they need to create a government that respects us, reflects us, and represents us.”

Cleveland, OH – Registration Nation Action Fund, in partnership with several key advocacy organizations, is proud to launch the “Freedom Is At Stake” GOTV Bus Tour in Cleveland on Tuesday,  October 8, 2024,. The event will kick off a multi-state effort across swing states geared to increase voter participation among young people, communities of color, and others voting blocs who face historic barriers to voting.

The results of Ohio’s elections will have high stakes in determining the outcome of the Senate and House. Local issues such as abortion access, worker rights, energy policy, and voting rights will play a critical role in driving voter turnout. The tour aims to mobilize Black voters, young voters, and those in critical swing districts, whose participation will be decisive in maintaining the balance of power and defending reproductive rights, worker protections, and vulnerable communities from the far-right agenda of Project 2025.

“There are elections in Ohio that will play a decisive role in the outcome of the House and Senate, and we want to ensure every eligible voter has the opportunity to make their voice heard,” said Andi Pringle, Founder and CEO of Registration Nation Action Fund. “The Freedom Is At Stake Bus Tour is here to support and uplift the communities that have been left out of the democratic process for too long.”

The Cleveland stop will feature a “Vote to Live” stage, with national and local speakers, entertainment, and giveaways. Attendees will have access to voter registration resources, information on early voting, and transportation to polling locations. The tour is supported by partners including SEIU, NAACP, NextGen America, Black Lives Matter, and PushBlack.

“Ohio is ground zero in this fight for our democracy. The right-wing agenda wants to push Project 2025 to dismantle reproductive rights, worker protections, and leave our most vulnerable communities out to dry. But Ohioans—especially Black voters and young people—can stop that in its tracks. Said Quentin James, Founder and President of The CollectivePAC.  “That’s why it’s so important to launch the GOTV bus tour here in Ohio. We are proud to help increase the number of voters getting to the polls because these critical races will determine the balance of power across the country. What happens here doesn’t stay here—it affects the entire nation. This election is about standing up for our rights and telling those who want to turn back the clock: not on our watch.”

Ohio State Representative Juanita Brent said of the tour, “This election is about expanding the universe of voters who are ready to fight for their freedom—freedom over their bodies, their rights at work, and their communities. The work we’re doing in Ohio will ripple across the nation, shaping the policies that protect our future and pushing back against any efforts to take us backward.”
