Detroit, MI – After successful stops in Cleveland, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh, the “Freedom Is At Stake” GOTV Bus Tour is now making its way to Detroit on Saturday, October 12, 2024, to continue engaging Black voters and youth, especially young Black men, in this critical battleground state. The tour, in partnership with NextGen America, will focus on raising awareness about key issues like economic justice, voting rights, and the importance of civic participation ahead of the 2024 election.

The Detroit stop will feature NextGen America’s “Puff & Politic” Voter Registration Event, an evening of cigars, cannabis, cocktails, and conversation, with community leaders and cultural figures discussing the power of the Black vote. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the voting process, register to vote, and engage in discussions on the critical issues that will shape the future of the House, Senate, White House and beyond.

“Black voters, especially young Black men, hold the key to determining the outcome of the 2024 election in Michigan and across the country,” said Andi Pringle, Founder and CEO of Registration Nation Action Fund. “This tour is about empowering communities that have been historically marginalized and ensuring that everyone knows what’s at stake—our rights, our freedoms, and our future.”

NextGen America, the nation’s leading youth voting organization, is dedicated to mobilizing young voters nationwide. “We’re creating a space for young Black men to connect, engage, and understand the impact of their vote,” said Harry Johnson, VP of Strategic Partnerships for NextGen America. “With Election Day less than a month away, we’re focused on ensuring that young voters have everything they need to make their voices heard and build a government that reflects them.”

“In Michigan, we know that voter turnout will make the difference,” said Quentin James, Founder and President of The CollectivePAC. As a critical battleground state, the participation of Black voters, young people, and communities of color will decide the outcome of this election. This tour is about reminding voters that their voices have the power to shape the nation’s future.”

Working people will make the difference in this election. We want good union jobs in strong, thriving communities with clean water, safe schools, affordable housing, and accessible care. Workers are turning out across the country, voting for us—because when we vote for us, we win, said April Verrett, SEIU President.

The “Freedom Is At Stake” GOTV Bus Tour is part of a national effort supported by Vote To Live, SEIU, NAACP, PushBlack, Black Lives Matter PAC, Voices For A Better Future PAC, Mobilize Justice, Rainbow Push Coalition, and the Black Alliance for Just Immigration, along with Divine Nine Fraternities and Sororities. Together, these organizations are working to ensure that historically marginalized communities are fully engaged in the democratic process.
